Getting Started with the MailerSend iOS App

1. Download the App

If you already have a MailerSend account, simply download the app from the App Store. If you're new to MailerSend, you will need to sign up for an account first.

2. Use your MailerSend account credentials to log in.

Navigating the Dashboard

The dashboard provides an overview of your sender reputation and account health, including sent and received emails, opens, clicks, bounce rate, and complaint rate.

When you first log in to the app, you will see the dashboard and various metrics related to your transactional emails.

These include:

  • Processed emails: The total number of emails processed by the system

  • Delivered emails: The number of successfully delivered emails

  • Rejected emails: The number of emails that were not delivered due to issues such as invalid addresses, spam filtering, or other factors

  • Received emails: The number of incoming emails, such as replies or bounce notifications

The dashboard also provides insights into email performance, including:

  • Sent: The total number of emails that have been dispatched from the MailerSend servers during the chosen time period

  • Delivered: The percentage of emails that have been successfully delivered to recipients' inboxes

  • Opens: The number of opened emails

  • Clicks: The number of times recipients clicked on links within your emails

Reputation Monitoring

The dashboard also includes a reputation monitoring widget that provides an overview of your account's health. It displays the two following metrics, which are crucial factors affecting your sender reputation:

  • Bounce rate: The percentage of undeliverable emails in relation to the total number of sent emails. To learn more about bounce rates, check our guide on bounced emails

  • Complaint rate: The percentage of emails marked as spam by recipients in relation to the total number of sent emails

The metrics can be viewed for the past week or past month, depending on the tab chosen. To ensure you're viewing the most up-to-date information, you can refresh the dashboard by swiping downward on the screen. The app will then update the displayed metrics with the latest data.

From the dashboard, you can easily navigate to other sections of the app by using the menu icons located at the bottom of the screen.

Manage domains

The Domains section in the MailerSend iOS app allows you to manage and monitor your registered domains, track email activity, and adjust domain settings.

To access the Domains section, click the Domains icon located at the bottom of the screen. From here, you will see a list of all the domains associated with your MailerSend account. Each domain entry displays the domain name, verification status, and tracking options.

Verification Status

The verification status of each domain is displayed with a blue (verified) or red (unverified) tag. A verified domain means that you have successfully completed the required DNS configuration, allowing you to send transactional emails using that domain.

Domain tracking options

For each domain, you can enable or disable various tracking options.

To do this:

  1. From the Domains tab, tap the domain you want to manage.

  2. In the Settings section, you can enable or disable the tracking options by toggling the dial ON or OFF. The tracking options are:

  • Open tracking: Track the number of times your emails are opened by recipients

  • Click tracking: Monitor the number of times recipients click on links within your emails

  • Content tracking: Enables you to view the actual content of your sent emails as they were delivered to recipients. Once content tracking is enabled for a domain, you can view the content of sent emails within the Activity area of the app

  • Unsubscribe tracking: Keep track of recipients who have unsubscribed from your emails

Manage sending or delete a domain

In the Domains section, you can also stop sending emails from a specific domain or remove a domain entirely from your account.

To do this:

  1. From the Domains tab, select the domain you want to edit.

  2. Scroll down to the Danger Zone.

  3. Choose Stop Sending or Delete Domain as needed.

Activity

The Activity section in the MailerSend iOS app provides a comprehensive overview of your transactional email activity, including email status, timelines, and content.

To access the Activity section:

  1. Tap the Activity icon located at the bottom of the screen.

Once in the Activity section, you'll see a list of all recent email events. Each event entry displays the email subject, recipient, event type, and timestamp.

  1. To narrow down the email activity list, you can apply filters based on domain or event type. Under Show Activity For, click either option to select the desired domain and/or event type.

Each message has at least 4 steps that need to be completed before a successful delivery. You can see all of those steps on the Activity page:

  • Queued: Your API request has been approved and awaits processing.

  • Processed: Our servers have handled your request, and your email has been transferred to our sending servers.

  • Sent: Your email was dispatched from our sending servers, and we are currently awaiting a response from the recipient's servers.

  • Delivered: Your email was successfully delivered without any errors.

  • Soft bounce: Your email was not delivered due to a soft bounce, which is a temporary rejection by the recipient's server. This can occur when the recipient's inbox is full, for example.

  • Hard bounce: Your email was not delivered and was returned to our servers because the recipient's address is invalid. A hard bounce may result from a non-existent domain name or an unknown recipient. You will be unable to send future emails to recipients that have hard bounced. Utilize the Suppressions tool to view and manage all rejected recipients.

  • Opened: The recipient received and opened your message. Open tracking is only available if you have enabled it in your domain settings.

  • Clicked: The recipient clicked on a link within your message. Click tracking is also only available if you have enabled it in your domain settings.

  • Unsubscribed: Your message was rejected because the recipient has unsubscribed and the email address is in your Suppressions list.

  • Spam complaints: Your message was rejected because the recipient marked your email as spam, and the email address is present in your Suppression list.

To view more information about a specific email event, tap on the event entry. This will open the email details, which include:

  • Subject: The subject line of the email

  • Recipient: The email address of the recipient

  • Status: The current status of the email, such as delivered, opened, or bounced

  • Content: The email content as it was delivered to the recipient (if content tracking is enabled for the associated domain in the Domains section)

Real-time email activity

The Activity section updates in real-time, so you always have access to the latest information about your transactional emails. To manually refresh the email activity list, pull down on the screen and the app will update the displayed events with the most recent data.

Analytics

The Analytics area in the MailerSend iOS app offers valuable insights into your transactional email performance.

To access the Analytics area:

  1. Tap the Analytics icon located at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Here, you can see key performance metrics for your transactional emails over the past week or month. These metrics include:

  • Sent emails: The total number of emails sent during the selected time period

  • Delivered emails: The percentage of emails successfully delivered to recipients

  • Bounced emails: The percentage of emails that experienced a hard or soft bounce

  • Opened emails: The percentage of emails that were opened by recipients

  • Clicked emails: The percentage of emails in which recipients clicked a link

  • Spam complaints: The percentage of emails that resulted in spam complaints.

The Analytics area also shows email performance data in the form of interactive charts. You can easily track changes in your metrics over time by tapping and dragging along the chart. This allows you to identify trends, peaks, and valleys in your email performance.

To ensure you're viewing the most up-to-date analytics, you can refresh the data by pulling down on the screen. The app will then update the displayed metrics with the latest information.

Settings

The Settings area provides access to important configurations and options for managing your account.

To access the Settings area:

  1.  Tap your account name in the upper right corner of the screen. Here, you can view your account name and associated email address.

If you need assistance with the MailerSend iOS app or have questions about your account, the Settings area offers quick access to help and support resources. You can access the MailerSend knowledge base, API reference, or check legal policies.

Logging out or switching accounts

Within the Settings area, you also have the option to log out of your current account or switch between multiple MailerSend accounts.
