Upcoming changes to TLS Protocol support
What is TLS?
TLS plays a crucial role in safeguarding sensitive information as it travels from email marketing platforms to recipients' inboxes. This encryption protocol helps protect personal data, verification codes, and other confidential information contained in transactional emails against interception and tampering. This can include the data contained in purchase confirmations, password resets, and account notifications.
What changes are coming?
Starting June 3, 2024, MailerSend will no longer support TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1 for SMTP relay. We will exclusively support TLS versions 1.2 and above. This update is crucial for aligning with industry best practices for security and data integrity.
How to prepare
1. Check your current TLS version: Review your email-sending systems or applications to determine the TLS version in use. You may need to consult with your IT department or service provider.
2. Plan for upgrade: If you're using TLS 1.0 or 1.1, start planning your upgrade to a higher version. This may involve updating software, operating systems, or email-sending libraries.
3. Test after upgrade: Once upgraded, thoroughly test your email-sending capabilities to ensure there are no disruptions to your service.
Failing to upgrade to TLS 1.2 or higher by June 3, 2024 can expose your email communications to potential security threats. What’s more, your service may be disrupted due to incompatible security protocols with MailerSend’s SMTP relay.
